Where is Balamory filmed?
CBeebies' 'Balamory' is
filmed in Tobermory on the Isle of Mull. Tobermory was chosen as the
location because of it's brightly coloured houses, some of which are
featured in the programme. The orange house, where Spencer the Painter
lives (in the show) wasn't always orange, but the real owner liked the new
colour so he kept it! 'Pocket and Sweet' is, in real life, the Box
Office for Mull Theatre and is only painted red during filming.
Afterwards, it goes back to being blue.
Some of the houses in the
programme are actually holiday accommodation so, if you're visiting Mull,
you can stay in a real 'Balamory' house. Josie Jump's house is really
the Harbour
Heights Hotel and it really is that yellow. Unfortunately, you
won't see a pink castle on your visit. Archie's Castle is filmed in
another location but you can stay in
Glengorm Castle near
Tobermory, or visit Duart Castle
and Torosay Castle in Craignure. You can even travel to Torosay Castle
by Mull's very own narrow gauge railway
that also featured in the programme as the 'Balamory Express'.
'Toddler Tourism' as it has
been branded is a new phenomenon to Mull, quite different to the island's
usual cliental. The people of Mull are working hard to make it a
worthwhile place for children to visit, providing more things to see and do
after looking at the Balamory houses.
