Minutes of the meeting held on 6th November in the Craignure Inn

PRESENT:

Sandy Brunton, Michael Ackerley, Barry Morley, Georgia O’Neill

APOLOGIES:

John Cable, Alan Parker, Tom Bettley, Derek Crook, Jo Currie

MINUTES:

October minutes proposed for approval at the next meeting

MATTERS ARISING:

Caravans.  The encampment has gone but there is a considerable amount of debris.  Sandy has spoken to Counillor MacDougall.

Transport Strategy:  Sandy will repeat the brainstorming exercise (used at our September meeting) at the forthcoming MICT conference on Thursday to gain more views about transport priorities.

Jim Wilkie:  Will be contacting Georgia later this week.

Transport Guide:  Slight confusion about what’s happening with the online guide.

Travel Expo:  Email from John Cable - Holiday Mull might be going to another travel show in addition to the Expo next year.  It would be a show for the public rather than trade.  It was discussed whether the time, effort and cost would be worth it for a show of this kind.  We would recommend that the Chamber attend only the Travel Expo at present.

Letter to Council:  Barry has tidied up the letter which will now request a meeting with a council executive officer.

MARINE PARK:

<Georgia> will send circular email to members to gauge the opinion amongst members about becoming a Marine National Park.

CALMAC:

A ‘Customer satisfaction study’ is being conducted by Caledonian MacBrayne.  Unfortunately, the questions asked in the survey do not address the main issues raised at the public meeting last month.  Sandy suggested pre-empting the results of the survey in a press release stating the real issues that concern islanders.

SECRETARY:

Mairi MacKinnon from the M.E.S.S. project has requested a spot at the next Chamber meeting to give a presentation about the project.

TREASURER:

No report in Tom’s absence

AOCB:

It was agreed that the January meeting will take place on the 8th

Next Meeting: Monday 4th December
