MULL & IONA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE Minutes of the meeting held on the 2nd February 2004 in the CRAIGNURE HALL PRESENT : Alan Mc Connochie, Tom Bettley, Sandy Brunton, Michael Ackerley, Derek Crook, Jenny Smith, Olive Brown, Georgia O’Neill, Jo Reade, Alasdair MacDougall. APOLOGIES : John Cable. MINUTES : Minutes of the meeting on 5th January 2004 proposed by Michael and seconded by Tom. MATTERS ARISING : Alasdair brought a draft copy of the Argyll & Bute local plan for our area and a lengthy discussion followed. Many points were raised and the Board will draft a letter of points and issues and forward to the Council <ALL BOARD MEMBERS>. The consultation period ends on the 10.3.04 and all members should be encouraged to comment on this important report. <GEORGIA> will put the details on the web site and <OLIVE> will produce a poster to advertise. STRAG - Alasdair requested that the Chamber continue seeking support for the upgrade and write to the Council Director of Roads and the Transport Minister in Holyrood <ALAN>. Alan will send a copy to STRAG and ask for any updates. A82 - Alasdair also requested that the Chamber send him a supporting letter regarding how important upgrading the Loch Lomond section of the A82 is to Mull & Iona.<ALAN> DRIVING INITIATIVE - The leaflet is ready to pass on to Cal.Mac. <SANDY> will write to the Area Roads Manager regarding difficulties arising when passing places are hard to see, white lines are missing, etc. Copy to Alasdair. TRAVEL SHOW - Ongoing. ANNUAL DINNER - The Annual Dinner will be held in the Ardachy House Hotel on the 28.2.04 and the speaker will be Jim Mather MSP. The AGM will be held prior to the dinner and a business breakfast with the MSP held on the Sunday. PRESIDENT : Sandy has received a National Trust Document regarding plans for Iona and Staffa. Also received were details of Commercial waste uplift charges. WEBSITE - Georgia has the new Zynet site up and running and all agreed it is looking great. All members should look at for further comments. <GEORGIA> will send a circular e-mail regarding advertising job vacancies and details of the Driving Initiative. TREASURER - Tom reported a balance of £3946.38. SECRETARY - Alan reported on correspondence received in the month. He also reported that the member discount he received attending a Glasgow Chamber First Aid Course was greater than the Chamber annual fee. AOCB - All present thanked Alasdair for attending and allowing us a view of the Local Plan. DATE OF NEXT MEETING - 1st March 2004 in the Craignure Hall at 8pm. |
