MULL & IONA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

Minutes of the meeting held on the 2nd SEPTEMBER 2002 in the CRAIGNURE HALL

PRESENT : Sandy Brunton, Alan Mc Connochie, Georgia O’ Neill, Derek Crook, Jo Reade, Michael Ackerley.

APOLOGIES : Olive Brown, Pat Logan, Tom Bettley.

MINUTES : Minutes of the meeting on 5th August 2002 proposed by Sandy and seconded by Derek.

MATTERS ARISING : RE - CYCLING - Meeting with Mr. Nelson and Mr. Farquar of SEPA and Mr. Ian Welsh of the Council arranged for November. <DEREK> will present his proposal ‘s for the function at the next Chamber meeting. It was agreed that the Distillery boardroom will be used <ALAN> and <JO> will provide the buffet lunch. The Fresh Futures lottery bid is ongoing and needs a copy of our Constitution and Annual accounts to assist their efforts to create jobs in waste reduction and re - cycling.

CONSTITUTION - Ongoing.

FERRY COMMITTEE - <MICHAEL> will request that the Committee minutes may be added to the Chamber website. Michael was requested to draft a precis of the Ferry tendering document by the Ferry committee and to also draft its response. Michael ran through the draft and all present congratulated him on an excellent piece of work.

OVERLAND ROUTE - Jo met with the Lib Dem MP and MSP regarding the route and reported they were both in favour of this initiative. He has also been advised by Jim Hunter to contact the AIE with regard to a conference being held to discuss the subject.<JO>. The MP and MSP also thought it shocking that no plan for upgrading the rest of the Tobermory - Salen road was in place and they will investigate this. <SANDY> will invite Alastair MacDougall to a meeting to discuss the lack of plans.

PRESIDENT : Sandy attended the WOSCG meeting in Lochgilphead. Sandy suggested a meeting in the new year regarding network communications. eg. Lack of broadband access.

COMM. TRUST UPDATE - No report in Pat’s absence.

WEBSITE - Georgia reported problems in linking with Insuleur. <SANDY> will supply contact details. Georgia and Alan P. are working on site promotion. <GEORGIA>will try to help promotion by showing benefits of members sites linking back to the Chamber site. BT have advised that the free internet access provided to residents will not affect phone line access. Georgia advised that members not linking their previous e-mail address to their new free address should do so to avoid future problems.

TREASURER - No report in Tom’s absence.

SECRETARY - Alan reported on the correspondence received in the month.
