The Mull Eco Charter

The Chamber is supporting this new scheme operated by the M.E.S.S project.

WHAT IS THE MULL ECO CHARTER?

The ecomull charter promotes good environmental practice (see table on right)

You can join as a business, household or individual.

WHAT IS EXPECTED OF ME IF I SIGN UP FOR THE CHARTER?

You are asked to strive towards certain goals, but are not constrained to achieve 'absolute perfection' which, in any case, is not always possible on Mull.  Although many of us practice individually what the charter preaches, by being a member you are stating your intent and strengthening 'the cause'.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF BEING INVOLVED?

With enough members we can begin to promote Mull as an eco-friendly island (which we know it already is).

Being a member enables you to belong to a group of like-minded people, to network with other eco-friendly persons, to better spread 'the word' about eco-friendly matters, and to promote yourself, your business, and the island as an eco-friendly area.  Furthermore, it gives you support and encouragement, and will make it easier to have your opinions heard in higher places.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

£10 per year, to cover administration. Any remainder will support MESS Project activities around the island.

HOW DO I JOIN?

For information about how to join the scheme, please contact M.E.S.S.

We believe the islands of Mull, Iona and Ulva to be exceptional places of great beauty, but with a fragile eco-system that needs to be cared for.

With this in mind, we are striving to:-

recycle paper and card

recycle glass bottles and jars

make compost

use low energy light bulbs

turn out unnecessary lights

turn down thermostats

use energy efficient appliances

use reduced flush toilets

use showers, rather than baths

buy products with a recycled content

use organic produce

buy local products and produce

use environmentally friendly products

replant with native trees

support the MESS project and encourage others to do the same
